About the Mural

Jamie Hef frequently travels with fellow artists, exploring different cities and countries.

 
He has been creating graffiti for 40 years. His fundamental tool is a simple can of spray paint, which he uses to bring his visions to life.

 
"I've been doing graffiti since 1984. The core idea of my work is to show that you can depict anything with a spray can. Everything we see in this world can be painted on a canvas or a wall," Jamie noted.

 
According to the US artist, an entire universe can be contained within a single spray can.

 
"In this piece—on a 10-story residential building in Siberia—I've conveyed the idea of global warming and endangered species. I depicted a bear and an iceberg as a message about global warming, addressing ecological themes and issues. I wanted to show that our future depends on us. I first painted a polar bear inside a paint can, along with a glacier. Then, I decided to add a penguin on the wall—in reality, these animals never meet, as they live on opposite poles of the planet. I am incredibly happy and grateful to the 'Omsk, You're Just Space' festival for bringing me to the other side of the globe. Here in Russia, I have been received with immense warmth and sincerity. The people in Russia, and in Omsk specifically, are very open and friendly," the artist remarked.
